Mastery of both contemporary and traditional techniques, a sophisticated eye for pattern and color, and
familiarity with the more unusual aspects of decorative art history make Bricelj the resource for designers
looking for that special customized finish.
Whether it’s verre eglomisé re-interpreted for a modernist, chinoiserie with a 40’s slant or a minimalist wall
where color and texture tell the story, Bricelj considers the research for the perfect solution to be the “fun”
part of the project.
“I ask a lot of questions…” she says, “Who is the designer? What is the client like? What will the furniture be?
I integrate all these factors into a seamless whole, like a stylist for a runway show, whose work has to be
unobtrusive but must bring that glamorous finishing touch to the designer’s vision.”
Fashion analogies come naturally to Bricelj. Born in Italy, educated in Argentina at a British school and then
at the Rhode Island School of Design, she had a successful career as a world-travelled clothing designer
before switching to decorative finishes. She trained at the Institut de Peinture Van der Kelen/Logelain in
Brussels for a thorough grounding in European artisan techniques, and then returned to New York to start,
what she calls, her “couture finishes” business.
“My eclectic background is a plus.” she acknowledges, “I understand many different visual languages
and have a command of global references.”
Her projects are wide ranging, as is her client list. They include prestigious New York apartments, Connecticut
homes and whimsical commercial spaces, as well as the Kips Bay and French Designer showhouses.“Scale
is immaterial: we can work on a twenty-room mansion or on one piece of furniture, as long as the project
requires imagination, quality of design and professional execution.”
